Karapara Estate Project Details

It is located 52 km from Palakkad town and about 9 km from Nenmara. Nelliampathy is located at an altitude of 467 m to 1572 m above sea level.

Nelliyampathy on the high ranges of the Western Ghats, offers a stunning view of the Sholayar Pass lying deep down in a 20 mile stretch of velvet green. Certain hills especially Seethakundu of Nelliyampathy cease abruptly to form cliffs overlooking the panoramic valley below. These ranges of the Ghats at an altitude of 467 m to 1572 m above sea level and the pass have a dominant influence on the climate of the region. It is through this mountain pass that the monsoon clouds formed over the Arabian Sea after shedding rain in Kerala, move to the neighbouring State of Tamil Nadu.

From the hills of Nelliampathy Pothundi Reservoir can be seen in the valley down below. Pothundi is built across Meenchadyppuzha and Padippuzha the tributaries of the Ayalar river (a sub tributary of Bharathappuzha). The rich greenery of the forests hugging these hills is frequently punctuated by small and big waterfalls. Among these, the one at Seetharkundu, and another at Karapara are worth mentioning.

Nelliyampathy, spread over 82 sq km, has the highest peak at Nellikotta which is also called Padagiri. The hills are sprinkled with tea, coffee, cardamom, vegetable and orange plantations. The temperature at these ranges vary from 15 degree Celsius in December to 30 degree Celsius in April.

Nelliampathy is unique in a win-win situation for agricultural activities and it is an ideal blend of tropical and sub tropical climate which is rarely available elsewhere. The black red and fertile soil of Nelliampathy is a gift of mother nature and can be trusted to support any good farming and plantation activity. A proper, planned agricultural activity keeping the ecological balance of the area can never be a failure in Nelliampathy Hills.

Karapara Estate-A

This is one of the Plantations in Nelliampathy Hills, 40 KMs away from Nenmara Town. In the year 1878, M/s.Robert H Duges Pierce and Dugald Stewart Gilkinson took over this wonderful land from the then Highness of Cochin for proper use.

The land was given to them on grant of lease with right to enjoy the land forever for proper use. The deed was registered at Chittoor Sub Registry (Palakkad) on 02/07/1878 by a document No.44 of 1054 (ME) 1878 . The same is enclosed as Annexure-I
